:Surfing brought me to your site, and I'm SO
:glad I found it. In a country that seems to be
:consistently becoming more
:Conservative-Christian, I've become very nervous
:about airing my opinions for fear of being
:grilled and ostracised.

Depending upon what part of the country you
harken from, this can be a very valid
concern. Choose your battles and measure your
responses carefully.

The best way we've found to confront the
situation is often to allow those you are
concerned by to 'speak for themselves'. Simply
airing the statements of your opposition will
frequently make people sit up and take notice;
the 'Hey wait a minute! They actually said
that?' response is common. Such are best framed
with footnotes and other documentation.

That aside, it is possible/likely you may be
'grilled and ostracised', that doesn't mean
standing up for what you believe, and efforts to
raise awareness of what you have identified as a
probelem are not worth it. To the contrary. In
times such as these, "Silence = Death, Action =
Life" (Thank you ACT UP!) is more than just mere
rhetoric. Take heart in the fact that you are
not alone in that others share your concerns.

Identity Politics can have great value
here. Find how what you're concerned about
affects you directly and speak from your own
experience. Join with others with their own
stories to tell. Find people you trust and work
in whatever capacity you feel comfrortable. Your
voice DOES make a difference.

:It's nice to find people that not only share my
:concerns but also work out ways to continue to
:constructively build a free and independent
:society with their eyes on all sorts of relevant
:issues. Kudos!

Thank you!

It means a lot to us to hear voices like this
from the wilderness. We are usually busy
dealing with mail telling us how much we 'hate
christians'. Voices of sanity are always
welcome! As for 'eyes on ...relevant issues',
you ain't seen nothin' yet!

Take care of yourself, and thanks!

-Sabina
